Sunday Meditations

Synopsis

SUNDAY MEDITATIONS
for Liberal Religious Worship

by Peter Richardson

$19.95

Written for public worship these 65 meditations follow the calendar year of seasons and festivals celebrating the joys and sorrows of our lives. Issues of human violence, dying, prejudice, leave taking, remembering, abortion, childhood, times of tragedy and of delight are treated unflinchingly. 102 photographs by the author from around the world add nuance and context for the meditations, a fine resource for ministers and laity alike. Some may wish to own this book for the poems or the photographs alone. An underlying assumption is a spiritual global consciousness.

Twenty seasonal holidays are included: Passover, Easter, Wesak (the Buddha’s birthday), Beltane, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Ingathering (with water), Day of Atonement, Samhain, Harvest (bread ceremony), Thanksgiving, Divali, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Christmas, New Year (western), New Year (Chinese), Tenth of Muharram (Shi’a), Spring Equinox.

Two Meditations are stories of Children’s perspective of the values of generosity (“Fatima”) and tolerance (“Kuan Yin: A Story”), the only prose meditation included. Two others address Children’s experiences of the outdoors and of congregational life.

Quality Paperback, 162 pages, ISBN-13: 978-0-974-1152-6-9 c. 2009.
